Water supply update - advice for food businesses

Home > News > No mains water in Tewkesbury area

If you are a food business and you handle open non-packaged foodstuffs, such as pubs, cafes, restaurants, nursing homes or any other caterer,  then it is important that you follow the advice below.

It is a requirement that all food business have an adequate supply of hot and cold or appropriately mixed running water. At present there is currently no mains water available in Tewkesbury and the surrounding areas.

We would advise all businesses affected by the water outage to obtain an adequate supply of bottled water which can be used for hand washing or food preparation.

In the event that you are unable to secure an adequate supply of bottled water or similar temporary measure then the advice from our Environmental Health Department is that you must consider closing your business until such time that the  supply returns to normal.

It is not possible to guarantee safe food preparation without an adequate water supply. Should a food business continue to operate without a water supply and the Environmental Health Department believes there is a significant risk to health , then the use of emergency powers may be considered to resolve the situation.

Should you require any further information or advice then please do not hesitate to contact the Environmental Health Department on 01684 272191 or 01684 272189.
