Following the public consultation session held on Saturday 25 March, Tewkesbury Borough Council is pleased to announce that the favoured play area design for the Vineyards area has been confirmed and work is to begin shortly.
Over 200 local residents kindly provided feedback on the day and the council is very grateful to those who gave freely of their time after the event to help create a truly inclusive play area, accessible to all.
Due to the site being within a conservation area the design has had to be submitted for planning permission, agreement was achieved on 4 July. Contract with the preferred supplier will be drawn up in the next few weeks.
The Vineyards is the main play area within the town and the existing site, although over 40 years old attracts a large number of residents and tourists. It benefits from a nearby car park and has a footpath link from the town centre and nearby housing estates. The installation of the new equipment will take four to five weeks to complete and therefore the council has made the decision to start works in September, this ensures the current play facilities in the area are available during the school summer holidays. It is expected that the new play area will be completed and open to the public by 20 Oct 2017.
