Tewkesbury Borough Council and Gloucestershire Police are shocked and saddened by the vandalism that occurred in Tewkesbury cemetery over the weekend.

A thorough investigation into the incident is being conducted and as part of that investigation the police are working with the council to look at options to reduce the risk of such incidents happening again. Options include the use of CCTV equipment and locking the cemetery gates.

To solve this crime and to prevent it happening again, the police are asking for the public’s assistance; they need the community to demonstrate vigilance, report suspect behaviour and pass on any information they may have regarding this incident.

Andy Noble, Asset Manager for Tewkesbury Borough Council stated “The repercussions of this crime go far beyond the physical damage caused, and the police and Tewkesbury Borough Council both wish to extend their thoughts and condolences to the families affected”.

Any witnesses should contact Gloucestershire Constabulary on 101 or email and quote incident 273 of 29 October.
