Tewkesbury Borough Council has welcomed a new mayor for 2017/18.

Councillor Harry Turbyfield was invested as Mayor of Tewkesbury borough at a ceremony held at Millbrook Academy in Brockworth on the evening of Tuesday 9 May 2017. 

More than one hundred guests welcomed the new mayor at the ceremony, including friends, family and local dignitaries.

Harry named his partner, Ruth Hatton, as his mayoress.  His chaplain is Reverend Wendy Ruffle of Prior's Park, Tewkesbury. 

Harry lives in Brockworth and represents the Brockworth ward as a borough councillor.

Harry, who has been a councillor since 2014, said:  "I am honoured to become the Mayor of Tewkesbury borough for 2017/18 and will serve the population for the whole borough of Tewkesbury to the best of my ability” Harry also went on to recognise the Air Ambulance and the Severn Area Rescue Association as his two chosen charities for the year, both of which are volunteer organisations.

Councillor Spencer was invested as deputy mayor for the year at the same ceremony.  His wife, Kate, is his mayoress.

The mayor's role is to chair council meetings and to lead the council at civic events.  The mayor attends a number of community engagements throughout the year.
