Tewkesbury Borough Council has arranged for its contractor, Ubico, to litter pick the A40 Golden Valley (between the Arle Court roundabout and Elmbridge Court) on the 16, 17 and 18 October between 9.30am to 3.30pm. To ensure the safety of the workforce, lane closures will be put in place during this time.
The council has received complaints about the amount of litter in the area but has been unable to close the lanes previously due to the roadworks on the A40 Elmbridge Court roundabout. Now these works are complete the litter pick can take place.
Cllr Jim Mason, lead member for clean and green environment said “Litter is harmful to wildlife and the environment and a blot on our otherwise beautiful landscape. We have a responsibility to keep the highways clear of litter and in this case it means some disruption to traffic due to the lane closures. We’d urge road users to take pride in their environment, please take your litter home and dispose of it responsibly”
Over the three days, a workforce of ten people will be used to manage traffic and clear up the take away wrappers, drinks cans and bottles; as well as vehicle traffic accident debris and items that have been fly-tipped.
Cllr Mason added “Please would all road users be aware, observe the signage and slow down as they approach the works and our colleagues”.
