Release date: 12 September 2018
Residents in the Tewkesbury Borough have reported receiving a bogus email advising them that they will soon receive a Council Tax refund for a specified amount of money provided they confirm their bank details on a form which is linked to the email. Please be advised that phone calls have also been received.
The email looks very professional, originating from someone who is described as a Revenues Advisor. The phone call or email asks for bank details and advises that fees can be reclaimed from the council.
Please delete this email and DO NOT access the form requesting bank details. Equally, please do not give out your bank details over the phone.
The Council has reported this scam to Trading Standards.
