Whether you are a new business starting out, an existing business looking to grow or would like to develop your workforce, there may be a suitable source of funding available to help. Grants to help with business development are available from a variety of sources, such as the Government, European Union, local authorities and some charitable organisations. These grants may be linked to business activity or a specific industry sector and some may also be linked to geographical areas.
Business support grant scheme
A recent business survey identified grant funding as a key area of support which would help businesses at the current time. Therefore we have developed a programme of three business support grants, aimed at:
- Supporting businesses that operate from home.
- Encouraging new business start-ups.
- Helping existing businesses to develop and grow.
It is also hoped that the programme will encourage occupation of premises and provide support for local retail and business centres, whilst also promoting increased entrepreneurship and investment.

Whatever your project or activity there may be a suitable source of external funding available to help. These may range from local and national grant schemes, to loans or charitable trusts and the following information sheet provides a useful guide.
The following two online directories may be used to identify sources of potential funding:
Funding Central is a free, online guide to grants, contracts and loans for the voluntary, community, private and social enterprise sectors. It offers an easy and free way for funders and commissioners to reach over 30,000 civil society organisations in all England's regions.
The Funding Central database presents information to users in a tailored and accessible way, based on their work interests and location. Due to of the ease of access for fund-seekers (it is completely free of charge) it has become the leading funding and contract search website.
Funding Central is not just a funding portal, it also provides advice, information and diagnostic tools to increase the awareness, understanding and skills of third sector organisations. It also provides a vast array of useful, relevant and topical information - from funding and finance news and events listings to information on charitable and statutory funding and contracting opportunities.
To access certain features of the site you will be invited to register your details. Registering is quick and easy to do and brings many benefits, including access to all areas of the site, sign up for regular, customised funding alerts and create a personal profile.
