Gotherington Parish Council submitted a Neighbourhood Development Plan, in accordance with Regulation 15 of the Neighbourhood Planning (General) Regulations 2012 (as amended), to Tewkesbury Borough Council on the 26th July 2016.


From the 12th September to 21st October 2016 the plan was consulted on, in accordance with Regulation 16, as a 'Plan Proposal'. A report summarising the consultation responses received can be viewed below.


Following the close of the six week consultation period on the 21st October 2016 the Gotherington Neighbourhood Development Plan was subject to Independent Examination.

Independent examiner's report

The report of the Independent Examiner of the Gotherington Neighbourhood Development Plan, Ms Liz Beth, was received on Thursday 6th April 2017.


At Referendum, on Thursday 20th July 2017, the Gotherington Neighbourhood Development Plan secured the majority required of those voting for Tewkesbury Borough Council to use the plan to help it decide planning applications in the Neighbourhood Area. With a 63.20% turnout and 93.10% voting yes.

Making the plan

Following the Independent Examination and Referendum, Tewkesbury Borough Council brought the Gotherington Neighbourhood Plan into legal force, under Section 38A(4) of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 (as amended) on the 19th September 2017.

The Gotherington Neighbourhood Plan now forms part of the statutory Development Plan for the Borough of Tewkesbury.
