Allotment sites

We manage two allotment sites situated in Staverton and Priors Park which together provide 29 plots for residents. Both sites are managed by our Property Services team.

An allotment is a piece of land you can rent to grow your own fruit and vegetables.

You might want an allotment to:

  • Put fresh, tasty produce on your plate.

  • Teach children about growing food.

  • Enjoy being out in the fresh air.

  • Get fit doing some digging.

  • Reduce food miles.

  • Grow organically.

Frequently asked questions

How much will an allotment plot cost?

The current annual charge for an allotment plot is £35. When you first take on a plot, payment is required in full regardless of the date the agreement starts. After that, an annual bill is sent to you in the post in January.

Is there a water supply at the sites?

Unfortunately the sites do not have a water supply due to high initial costs and the difficulties that may arise in apportioning the water usage to individual allotment holders. We advise wherever possible for allotment holders to harvest rainwater using water butts.

Who can have an allotment?

You need to be over 18 and a resident of Tewkesbury Borough. Your council tax should be payable to Tewkesbury Borough Council. If you live outside of the Borough boundary then, unfortunately, we are unable to offer you a plot.

Can I have bonfires on the site?

We do not permit the burning of any waste at allotment sites, due to the close proximity of residential properties. Regrettably if there is evidence of burning when site inspections are carried out the allotment holder may lose their plot. We would advise wherever possible for allotment holders to compost waste and reuse on the plots.

Can I keep chickens on the site?

The tenant must not keep any animals or livestock of any kind on the allotment, except hens, rabbits or pigeons.

Will I be able to have a shed or greenhouse?

The tenant must not erect any building on the allotment without the prior written consent from ourselves here at the council.
