Count Me In! enriches Tewkesbury pupils with Change4Life message

Hundreds of Tewkesbury School pupils will take part in a health-inspired Enrichment Day organised by Count Me In!

On Tuesday (Feb 9th) all Year 11 pupils will attend three sessions designed to focus on the benefits of living a healthier lifestyle.

Gloucestershire Food Vision and NHS Gloucestershire is running one of the sessions called, Eat Well, Move More, Live Longer. This is in line with the national guidelines laid out in the Change4Life campaign and will raise the pupils' awareness of the importance of eating well, being more active and resting, particularly in preparation for this summer's GCSE exams.

CMI has funded the event, resourced demonstration food and take-away packs for pupils which will include a canvas bag filled with smart travel maps, leaflets, five-a-day cards and Eat Well information.

Adrian Jevans, CMI! board member for Food and Nutrition, said: "This is an excellent opportunity for young people to engage with the number of issues around healthy eating. These messages will be helpful not only now, but for the rest of their lives and we are delighted that Count Me In! can be a part of that education."

Sue Gildling from Hartpury College will lead the second session, Breakfast4Life – this will include a cookery demonstration of three healthy options which highlights the benefits of eating breakfast.

Gloucestershire Trading Standards will lead the final session, Taking a Closer Look at Food Labelling which aims to increase the pupils' knowledge and understanding of food labels.

Nigel Roe, Tewkesbury School training manger, said: "We are very keen to incorporate what Count Me In! is doing into what our Year 11 pupils learn. Our Enrichment Day is the perfect opportunity to teach the pupils about how to live a healthy life. Year 11 will leave this year, whether they return to education or go into employment, it is important that our pupils understand what makes a healthy diet and how they can live an active, healthy life."
