About Environmental Health
The Environmental Health Services carry out a wide range of functions that are aimed at protecting and promoting the health of people living and working in the Borough, by improving and sustaining their living environment.
There are three teams within Environmental Health:
- Food Safety deal with environmental health issues in all food premises within the borough. This includes food hygiene and health and safety inspections along with any complaints about food and the premises themselves. The food team are also responsible for infectious disease control, in particular food poisoning.
- Environmental Protection promotes a healthy environment, dealing with issues such as pollution, air quality control, pest control, land contamination, drainage, dog control, or other environmental issues that may be directly damaging to the environment and public health.
- Environmental Safety deals predominantly with health and safety in non-food premises and licensing for a variety of trades from acupuncture to zoos. Environmental Safety also oversees several Travellers sites within the borough, and is responsible for health and safety for staff and visitors at the council.
